Our Programmes

The CHAZ health program is managing the TB,Malaria, Nutrition, HIV and AIDS. The program has been running since 1986 with support from different donors. The major one being the Global Fund for HIV,TB and Malaria.

The Joint Financing Agreement (JFA)

The program was officially launched on 20th December 2007 in response to the HIV AIDS pandemic. It combines the support of Dan Church AID(DCA) , Irish Aid, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN).

Performance Based Financing Program

The overall purpose of the PBF project is to safeguard health sector performance and contribute to the achievement of a better health status of the Zambian population.

Malaria Program

The Malaria Control Program was officially introduced in the Church Health Institutions (CHIs) with support from the Global Fund in 2003.

The AIDS care and prevention program

The CHAZ AIDS Care and Prevention Programme was developed in 1986 as a response to the growing problem of HIV and AIDS in the country.

TB Program

The overall objective of the TB control program is to reduce mortality, morbidity and social economic burden associated with TB in the Zambian population

LABORATORY UNIT

The laboratory unit at CHAZ was established to ensure separation of powers in the different aspects of laboratory operations. The unit’s five sub units are; procurement planning, logistics, quality assurance, diagnostics and research. And it works as a mobilizer, catalyse for church health institutions (CHIs), a coordinator for comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria and to ensure that all laboratory procedures adhere to good laboratory practices (GLP) and quality assurance (QA) standards.

MONITORING & EVALUATION

The Monitoring and Evaluation Unit was established in 2008 to provide monitoring and evaluation services to health programmes and the entire organization. The establishment of an M&E Unit also served as a means to strengthen Monitoring and Evaluation at the Secretariat.  

The purpose of the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit is to provide reliable information on progress on all CHAZ programmes as an integral part of the CHAZ strategic direction of strengthening health support systems for optimal organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

The specific objectives of the Unit include: To ensure the availability of quality and timely health information and promote the use of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) data and research findings for evidence based decision making.

To document periodically whether planned strategies have achieved expected outcomes and track CHAZ contribution to the national impact. The M&E Unit provides its services to implementing mission health facilities and faith based organizations through the Secretariat and the four provincial offices located in Chipata serving Eastern province, Choma for Southern and part of Western provinces, Ndola taking care of Copperbelt and North-western provinces and Kasama responsible for Northern and Luapula provinces.

The monitoring and evaluation activities implemented include: Technical Support and Onsite Mentorship: CHAZ provides periodic technical support to health facilities and faith based organizations in M&E data management and reporting. On-Site Data Verification and Data Audits: On site data verification/audits are conducted to ensure that the numbers reported to the secretariat are accurate by comparing the records (source documents) kept by the implementing health facility and faith based organization and the reports submitted to CHAZ. Capacity building in the management of patient care data using Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) is also provided to health facilities.

Since the establishment of the M&E Unit, a number of notable achievements have been observed. These include the development and establishment of a CHAZ wed based data base DHIS 2 for real-time data capture and reporting, which has improved overall reporting for CHAZ.  The establishment of four provincial M&E Offices has enhanced report submission by the implementing health facilities and faith based organizations. Capacity building in EMR has improved the management of records at health facility level. Through the M&E Unit, computers have been deployed to health facilities and faith based organizations. These improvements have facilitated information sharing with CHAZ collaborating partners both in country and outside.
