The Standard Charted Bank Zambia Plc donated Safe Delivery kits worth US $5,000 to CHAZ on October 1, 2007 to assist expectant mothers in rural communities.
CHAZ Executive Director, Dr. Simon Mphuka who received the donation said Stan Chart had exhibited a unique move by a corporate organization in Zambia to take interest in supporting health issues.
He hoped that this gesture was the beginning of a long term partnership with the Bank, adding that other business communities in the country should emulate Stan Chart and take keen interest in the health ware fare of the communities because Zambia’s further growth and prosperity depends on healthy nation.
And Stan Chart Managing Director, Mr. Tom Aaker, stressed the need to protect both mother and child from preventable complications and infections that could result in death.
“However, due to competing priorities for limited financial resources, Zambia like other developing countries, is still some way off in achieving the Millennium Development Goals on reducing Child Mortality and improving Maternal Health”, he said.
Mr. Aaker, who said that his organization supports numerous community projects such as Nets for Life and Youth Life skills development, observed that his Bank had demonstrated to its customers and communities that they are the right partner leading by example.
Said Mr. Aaker: “This event today is yet another opportunity for Standard Chartered Bank Zambia to live that promise and to make a life changing contribution to our society”.
The Mission Hospitals to benefit from the donation are Nyanje and Mwami in Eastern Province, Loloma and Mukinge in North Western Province, Macha and Mtendere in Southern Province, Kasaba in Northern Province and Mbereshi in Luapula Province.
