James Cairns Training Institute (JCTI) was officially opened by Dr. James Cairns on 20 June 2008. The centre is named after Dr. Cairns who was instrumental in forming CHAZ (CMAZ) as an umbrella organization for Mission Hospitals at that time. Dr. Cairns was the first Chairperson and went on to serve as Chairperson of the Board for over 10 years!
Today, JCTI situated in Roma, Plot 109 Ngwezi Road Lusaka boasts of a business centre that provides most office services such as computer access, printing, photocopying, unlimited access to internet and state of the art training equipment. JCTI also provides luxurious accommodation and is near to most of the best eateries around town.
Overall objective
JCTI overall objective is to contribute to strengthening capacity of health workers in Zambia and Church Health Institutions
Specific Objectives
The objective of the Training Programme is to contribute to strengthening skills and competences of staff serving in various areas of health care provision. Furthermore, the programme seeks to elicit support from partners to enable CHAZ implement skills up grading among CHIs.
The desired outcome is that the training will contribute to:
increased efficiency of work processes and personal development of participants attending training
Strengthened competence of trainee aptitudes
Training faculty
All the training programmes are anchored around a highly professional team. The trainers are experts at their subject matter and come with many years of experience. A good number of the trainers serve on national professional bodies, have published and manage huge programmes that allow them to continually keep abreast with industry trends. For purposes of technical oversight and direction, the JCTI benefits from the Technical Advisory Team and the Executive Director.
