The existence of the Planning and Development unit is to strengthen systems and structures in CHAZ that are more responsive to the needs of its members. Planning and development contributes to all CHAZ strategic directions thus to improve its resource base, increase local, national and international partnerships, this department therefore has a role to facilitate strengthening of systems in member institutions to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of services and to provide support to the CHAZ secretariat and its member institutions.
Specific Objectives :- In a bid to attain the outlined core objective of the department, the units singularly and collectively make contributions through the following specific objectives:-
Information Communication & Technology - ICT
ICT department delivers services that aid in healthcare system by providing maintenance, support, training and development of ICT tools to CHAZ secretariat and its supported member facilities. This is achieved through technical support visits in the sites, provision of on-site and off-site training in Microsoft applications, accounting programs,maintenance of Databases servers and standardization of information management systems. ICT also monitors the CHI's Vsat’s in four of Zambia’s provinces and provides hardware and software installation for CHAZ and its supported member facilities. The unit also administers and maintains CHAZ website.
Information and Publications
This unit communicates about CHAZ through Newsletters, Organizational reports, brochures and fact sheets. Knowledge management; Documenting best practices, Resource Centre management and providing access to educational materials and Media Relations. IEC production; printed publications, Audio-visual, radio and television programmes. Reviews and recommend media proposals for funding by CHAZ Technical Review Panel. The information, educational and communication (IEC) materials distributed on TB, Malaria, HIV/AIDS and other Health related issues increase the awareness levels on the diseases in community and facilitates adoption of safer life styles. The TV and radio programmes compliment the printed IEC in sensitizing the masses on the three diseases and other health related issues. Involvement of community members in production of the programmes especially TB and HIV has raised the interest of people to listen to the programmes and gave them an opportunity to learn from each other.
Medical Engineering and Refurbishment
The medical engineering and refurbishment unit was established in response to a realized need of medicals equipment repairs and servicing in CHI's. The main objective of the unit is to ensure availability of sustainable infrastructure and Medical Equipment in CHI by offering effective maintenance, facilitate procurement of new equipment and spare parts; repairs and maintenance of medical equipment. Training technicians in CHIs in basic skills in maintenace and management of medical equipment. Inventory of medical equipment is also carried out with view to identify ways to acquire spare parts and other consumables. The collected data is also useful in a donor funded project proposal for reference where possible.
